First take on dairy goats

First a little recent history.
Last September I was excited to be able to get a couple of milking goats from my sister who loved her goats but had run out of time to put into their care and milking. She sold them to me for a reasonable price. She had been milking them once a day and getting about a gallon each morning between the two of them. I took them home and began milking them once a day. Before this point, I had been researching goats and performance and I would have scorned a goat that was giving an average of 4 lbs a day. I had no idea how much milk a whole gallon a day was. I also had no idea how easy it was to milk once a day in the morning. A light bulb began to grow brighter in my mind. After I began milking these goats with an old modified surge milker, the light bulb began to grow much brighter. Now I was sold on the idea. What an amazing situation to be able to milk once a day and have plenty of good milk to drink all week long! I long to be able to provide more people with this experience that I had. It will take a certain kind of goat but I am committed to finding the genetics that will enable more people to provide fresh dairy products for their family.
